Heat Tape Installation in the Last Frontier
Alaska Heat Tape is dedicated to Protecting your property with reliable, long-lasting heat cable solutions designed specifically for Alaska winters.
Anchorage’s long winters bring heavy snowfall and variable temperatures. Roof heat cable is an essential defense against costly and dangerous ice buildup. Heat cable prevents ice dams from forming along roof edges, gutters, and downspouts—areas especially prone to freezing due to uneven roof temperatures.
When snow melts from warmer sections of the roof and refreezes at colder edges, it creates ice dams that trap water behind them. This water backs up under shingles and other roof materials, causing leaks, mold, and structural damage. Roof heat tape provides a controlled source of warmth that keeps these critical areas clear, allowing melting snow to safely drain away.
For Anchorage homeowners and businesses, installing heat cable can be a vital measure to protect buildings, reduce maintenance costs, and prevent hazardous icicles and slippery conditions below. With unpredictable freeze-thaw cycles and significant snowfall, roof heat tape is a smart, proactive investment for Alaska roofs.
We only install industrial-grade self-regulating heat tape customized to your unique issue. Let Alaska Heat Tape solve your problem so you can focus on enjoying winter.

Frequently asked questions
How do heat cables prevent ice dams?
Heat Tape? Heat Cable? Heat Trace? What's the difference?
Nothing!
Heat tape, heat cable, and heat trace are all different names for the same thing. Heat tape is a popular term for residential roof heat systems, but it doesn’t really matter what you call it. The fact is, it works! We’ve installed as little as six feet and as much as 435 feet on a single roof!
The terms heat cable and heat tape are used interchangeably when describing a special class of wires that use electrical resistance to generate heat.
The primary types of heat cables include self-regulating and constant wattage.
Self-Regulating Heat Cables:
These cables consist of a conductive polymer matrix that adjusts its electrical resistance based on temperature. As the temperature increases, the resistance increases, reducing the power output. This ensures that the cable won’t overheat, making it energy-efficient and safe to use. They are widely used in applications like pipe freeze protection, roof and gutter de-icing, and snow melting on walkways. THIS IS THE WAY TO GO!
Constant-Wattage Heat Cables:
These cables provide a constant heat output per unit length, regardless of the ambient temperature. They are prone to shorting out, overheating and have a short lifespan. They are unfortunately used for roof and gutter de-icing all too often. Alaska Heat Tape avoids them at all costs.
How often should gutters be cleaned?
Gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year—once in the spring and again in the fall. In Alaska’s climate, it’s especially important to ensure gutters are clear before winter to avoid ice buildup, clogs, and potential water damage to your roof, siding, or foundation.
Alaska Heat Tape always installs heat cable in gutters and downspouts.
Is moss removal safe for shingles?
Do you offer free estimates?
Absolutely. Alaska Heat Tape provide free consultations and estimates for all of our services. Whether you need heat cable installation, roof shoveling, gutter cleaning, or moss removal, we’ll assess your property, explain the best solutions, and give you a clear, no-obligation quote before starting any work.
How is your heat tape different from the stuff at big box stores

Alaska Heat Tape uses the highest quality self-regulating heat tape on the market.
The constant-wattage heat tape is cheap and prone to failure within a few seasons. It draws the same power regardless of the temperature and shorts out often. Alaska Heat Tape strongly recommends self-regulating heat cable.
